LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A tree that flew around the moon is now in the ground at Martha Layne Collins High School in Shelbyville.

A dedication ceremony was held Friday. Students planted the tree on Discovery Boulevard right next to the school.

Collins received one of just 50 trees from NASA's Artemis mission in 2022.

A Collins High School alum, Alora Mazarakis, works for NASA and was on the Artemis team.

"It's impossible to put into words how honored I am to be here," Mazarakis said. And I hope this inspires students to be interested in NASA and be interested in space flight."

Hundreds of schools and organizations applied to get one of the trees.
