LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The University of Louisville announced Monday plans to invest $2.4 million to give in-state students more financial aid.
UofL said in a news release Monday it will expand the Cardinal Commitment Grant, which helps close the gap between eligible students' financial aid and the cost of attendance. That includes tuition, dining, transportation, books and other expenses.
"We're always looking for ways to help our local and state-wide community," President Kim Schatzel said in a news release Monday. "This expanded grant will give more Kentucky residents access to a college degree without the stress of a heavy financial burden and provide an opportunity for them to make an impact on their communities after graduating."
The grant is is renewable, so students don't have to apply for it each year.
First-time freshmen who are Kentucky residents and demonstrate financial need are eligible for the automatic award. It could cover full tuition or range from $2,000 to $9,000.
