Who's running for JCPS school board? Meet the 23 candidates who will be on the ballot in November.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The deadline to file for the Jefferson County Board of Education passed Tuesday, setting up a crowded field for an election reshaped by a new state law.

In all, 23 candidates filed to run for five seats on the board serving Jefferson County Public Schools. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The race is different this year because of Senate Bill 4, which reduces the board from seven members to five and redraws district boundaries. Because of the law, all current board seats are up for election this November, regardless of when members were last elected.

Only three of the seven current board members filed to run again: Gail Logan Strange, Taylor Everett and Trevin Bass. Several members who aren't running have cited the state law changes as a reason.

In previous interviews, board member Tricia Lister said she would not seek re-election because the newly drawn boundaries place her in the same district as Logan Strange, and she did not want to run against her.

Temporary district assignments were made at a May 12 board meeting to comply with the new map. Under those assignments:

District 1: Tricia Lister
District 2: Corrie Shull
District 3: James Craig
District 4: Trevin Bass
District 5: Gail Logan Strange
At-Large: Taylor Everett and Linda Duncan

Under SB 4, winners in Districts 4 and 5 will serve two-year terms, while winners in Districts 1, 2 and 3 will serve four-year terms. Those members are scheduled to take office in January 2027.
