LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Kentucky racetrack that is owned by Churchill Downs did not allow fans into the facility on the first day of racing.
Ellis Park is located in Henderson, Kentucky. As they were preparing to open the doors on Thursday for opening day, they discovered a water issue.
The water issue would prevent a full grandstand, and a track spokesperson told WDRB that the issue was caused by Wednesday night's storms.
"This was a really difficult decision we had to make this morning," General Manager Matt Pressley said in a news release. "We will update everyone as soon as we can when the facility will be back open to fans."
Races still ran as scheduled.
There is no word yet on when the track will reopen to fans.
