LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Fairdale Library received an award for going "green," as it received the award of LEED Silver certification.

The building was designed and built sustainably and with low environmental impact.  The library has geothermal heating and cooling, environmentally friendly furniture and flooring, as well as energy efficient windows and features.

Library Director Craig Buthod explains, "Every minute we're open, little sensors measure how much light is coming in from the outside, adjusts.  That reduces how much electricity we have to use."

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design takes into account all aspects of design, construction, and operation.
