LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Farmington was all abuzz Saturday and will be thanks to a new pollinator prairie.
Saturday was its grand opening.
The prairie was planted last year with over 40 types of wildflowers and five kinds of grass. There was a master gardening class and jars of honey for sale in the museum shop.
The prairie is in collaboration with several organizations including the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife.
"We know that natural habitat back in the 1800s also would have looked very different so we therefore understand that it is our responsibility as stewards of Farmington to be good stewards of the land as well," said Michael Aldridge, Farmington Director.
Farmington added six new hives and plans on having new honey next year.
