LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Floyd Central High School student has died, the southern Indiana school district announced Saturday morning.

The Floyd County Sheriff's Office said it responded around 8 p.m. Friday to a rescue in the Highland Lake subdivision, between Georgetown and Greenville, where someone reportedly went missing in the lake.

Around 10:45 p.m., rescuers pulled Noah Maddox's body from the water.

"We extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the student's family, friends and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time," New Albany Floyd County Schools posted. "We recognize the profound impact this will have on our school community and we are committed to providing support for any student or staff member who may need it."

Counselors and support staff will be available at Floyd Central High School in upcoming days, the school district said.
