LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Multiple structures and a vehicle were heavily damaged by a garage fire Saturday in Fern Creek.

According to DeWayne Hutchens with Fern Creek Fire, fire officials were called to the 7100 block of Black Mountain Drive at 3:46 p.m. for a detached garage fire.

Both Fern Creek Fire and Okolona Fire arrived on scene within minutes and immediately began operations to calm down the flames, which were reaching the house and other structures nearby.

Extra fire officials had to be called in due to the intensity of the fire and the extreme temperatures. It took 40 firefighters approximately 30 minutes to gain control of the fire, Hutchens said.

In total, six structures and one vehicle were damaged by the fire.

Hutchens said one resident was evaluated on scene by EMS, and one firefighter was transported to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
