LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky has one of the highest rates of child abuse in the country.

About 14 of every 1,000 kids in Kentucky experienced some form of abuse or neglect in 2023.

That's according to the latest national report.

This week "Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky" hosted its policy awards to honor those who are working to keep children safe.

Gov. Andy Beshear spoke at the event and said criminals are constantly finding new ways to prey on kids and the state's laws must keep up.

"They're online, on social media," Beshear said. "They're trying to connect to kids over gaming devices where you can speak. They're trying to do it sometimes in person as well."
