LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The company that operates 14 Hardee's restaurants in Kentucky has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
According to our partners at Louisville Business First, Phoenix-based Superior Star LLC filed for bankruptcy protection July 9 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Kentucky.
Superior Star operates 59 Hardee's restaurants in 10 states and generated about $80 million in revenue in 2025. The company owes between $10 million and $50 million to more than 1,000 creditors.
The company said declining customer demand, rising food costs and liabilities tied to its 2023 purchase of 103 Hardee's restaurants, led to its financial problems.
Superior Star closed more than 30 underperforming restaurants in eight states last year, including locations in Louisville, Elizabethtown and Paducah, LBF reported. The company said it plans to continue operating its remaining restaurants while reorganizing under Chapter 11.
Superior Star said it plans to keep its remaining restaurants open as the bankruptcy case moves forward. It's unclear whether more locations will close.
