LOUSVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Just days after one road collapse in southern Indiana, a second hole has opened in another area of Jeffersonville.

The Jeffersonville Police Department shared photos on Facebook Tuesday night showing a large hole that opened on Gateway Drive between Starbucks and McDonald's.

According to Jeffersonville Street Commissioner Kevin Morlan, the collapse was caused by a storm pipe about 10 inches deep that failed to properly carry storm water, causing the road to wash out.

Roadblocks have been placed around the damaged area.

The new collapse comes after an emergency closure on 8th Street between Main Street and Nachand Lane, where part of the road gave way Monday evening.

That stretch of 8th street has now reopened temporarily. Officials said the city will complete permanent repairs sometime next week.

Unlike Monday's incident, the city said Gateway Drive is privately owned by a commercial real estate company, meaning repairs will be the responsibility of the property owner.
