LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A specialized task force from Indiana is being deployed to help the rescue operations in Texas after devastating flooding on the Fourth of July.

Indiana Task Force 1 has been activated, and 49 members are set to depart on Tuesday evening for Kerr County, Texas, to aid in the search and rescue, according to reporting from FOX59

"Our prayers are with the families and communities affected by the devastating floods in Texas over the weekend," Indiana Gov. Mike Braun said in a Facebook post Tuesday night.

"Tonight, FEMA activated Indiana Task Force One to assist with search, rescue, and recovery efforts. I’m grateful for this elite team of Hoosier first responders who drop everything when they’re needed, and I pray for their safe return home," Braun continued in his post.

More than 20 inches of rain pounded Texas' Hill Country during the overnight hours on Friday, July 4. The Associated Press reports at least 118 people have died in the floods, including several children and counselors from Camp Mystic, an all-girls camp along the Guadalupe River. More than 160 people are still missing.

The Indiana task force is one of 28 highly-trained Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency-sponsored search and rescue teams in the U.S. The team has been deployed to help on several national events including the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, Hurricanes Helene and Milton and most recently to south central Kentucky where an EF4 tornado ripped through three counties.

President Donald Trump has signed a disaster declaration for Texas and has promised to provide the state with whatever relief it may need. The president is expected to make a visit to the flooded areas on Friday.
