NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) -- As the Sherman Minton construction is now in the rearview, there is more construction on the way for southern Indiana drivers.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced plans for a three-year project to improve Interstate 64 and I-265 between US 150 and the Sherman Minton Bridge.

The project goal is to reduce congestion and improve mobility and safety, according to INDOT spokesperson Sidney Nierman.
Part of the plan include adding lanes in both directions along I-64 as well as another lane on 265 to State Street.
INDOT will also re-work the interchange connecting I-64 and 265, which will eliminate the left side exit. It also includes bridge and culvert replacements and rehabilitations, noise barriers, new guardrails and concrete barrier walls
Indiana Department of Transportation will spend the next year finalizing the plan. The project has been in the works since 2022, and several public meetings have been held to give the community a chance to look at and weigh in on the plans. Construction is estimated to begin in 2026 and last three years.
It comes on the heals of the three year long Sherman Minton bridge project.
"We understand construction can be an inconvenience, but we just want to remind everyone that it's in for improved travel for years to come," Nierman said.
