LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- There will be rolling roadblocks and intermittent closures on the Clark Memorial Bridge on Monday, according to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The Second Street Bridge connecting downtown Louisville to southern Indiana spanning over the Ohio River is scheduled for short-term closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The bridge currently has restricted traffic to two lanes for southbound traffic.

According to a news release, southbound travel will be restricted to one lane as contract crews work to move in necessary equipment to continue repair work. Also a short-term closure of the bridge will allow for crews to place equipment in order to move the remaining existing sidewalk structure.

Crews have started work to repair the sidewalk damaged on March 1, when a four-vehicle crash sent a semitruck through safety barriers that left it dangling over the Ohio River. The crash closed the bridge in both directions for more than 24 hours.

The bridge was built in 1929 and reconstructed in 1958. According to KYTC, the bridge carries an average of 24,000 vehicles per day over the Ohio River.

The repair work is expected to be completely finished by mid-April, and the city said the work won't interfere with the planning of Thunder Over Louisville, which closes the bridge to traffic for three days.

Drivers who usually take the bridge from Louisville to Indiana will need to find another route until the repairs are finished in mid-April.

KYTC recommends northbound travelers to detour onto Interstate 64 on the Sherman Minton Bridge or take Interstate 65 from the Kennedy Bridge. Both sidewalks of the Clark Memorial Bridge will remain closed to pedestrians until repairs have been completed.
