LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Western High School resource officer is under investigation over allegations he stashed pornography in his files at the Lynnview Police Department almost a decade ago.
The graphic pornography was in Dale Elliott's personnel file while he was an officer at the Lynnview Police Department. Now he's a Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy and was also a Western High School Resource Officer until Oct. 1.
That's when the Sheriff's Department started an internal affairs investigation. He remains on paid suspension of his police powers with a desk job.
"My understanding is that his employment as a school resource officer at Western was exemplary," Elliott's attorney Thomas Clay said on Oct. 29. "People there really admired his professionalism and there is no implication that I've heard that anything improper happened at Western."
Elliott worked as a Lynnview Officer in August 2003 and resigned in March 2004.
In a resignation letter, he wrote, "I am writing this to tell you I have viewed adult material on the Internet. I feel I need to come clean to admit my indiscretion. I apologize for this action."
He continued, "I am going to totally commit myself to my education, to my desires to go into ministry, and I know if I have unclean activity hiding my life, it dilutes my ministry."
His hard drive and computer were replaced years ago. In September, investigators requested his personnel files. In it, they found pornographic images the police department says were printed from Elliott's computer at the time.
Documents show no disciplinary action was taken against him.
He later became the Pioneer Village Police Chief before coming to the Sheriff's Office and then was a School Resource Officer.
Questions remain about whether those departments knew about the files.
