LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jeep and 4x4 clubs across Kentucky and southern Indiana are helping people get from point A to point B with the snowy road conditions.
Ahead of the weekend's snowstorm, the Stir Crazy 4x4 Club put a plan into action to get first responders and healthcare workers to their jobs safely.
"Wherever we could get three or four or five people in one go, we would go get them and then take everybody to and from where they could," driver Steve Craven said.
Craven said he's done this for years since he's always had four-wheel drive, but not on a larger scale.Â
The club put together a call center to set up times people could get picked up. It spanned 30 drivers, who traveled as far as Shepherdsville and Scottsburg to pick up workers.
"Since Thursday I think I've got seven hours of sleep and just kind of keep going and you help out as much as you can. Any little bit of positivity just goes a long way," Craven said.
The club isn't asking to pocket any money but they have uploaded a Venmo account saying the funds will go towards giving the drivers a nice dinner.
"It goes a lot further than just gas money, we don't need the gas money we want to make sure the next person can help out in a different way," Craven said.
Now, they just want people to pay the kindness forward.
"If you've got a four-wheel drive and you feel like you're a good enough driver, help somebody," Craven said.
They're still taking some rides at this time, but they may be limited since people are now driving outside of their work hours. To check availability, call (502) 324-4808.
