LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A recanvass took place in Jefferson County after a democratic incumbent lost her seat.

The District 44 race among Democratic Representative Beverly Chester-Burton, Kenya Wade, and Jesten Slaw was very close in the May 19 primary.

Representative Chester-Burton requested a recanvass after she lost the primary race to Wade by just five votes.

After double checking the numbers from the voting machines on election night, the count was correct, the Jefferson County Clerk's Office said Thursday.

Wade said she's happy people in Louisville trust her and she's ready for what's next.

"It's my honor and it's my duty and my obligation to bring forward what they want to see," Wade said.
