LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The mother of an infant who drowned at a Louisville motel last week was in court Thursday.
Amber Winstead, 37, is charged with manslaughter after her 3-month-old baby drowned New Year's Day in a bathtub at Motel 6 on Airport Hotels Boulevard.
Winstead got into the tub with the baby after using narcotics, according to the arrest citation. Police said Winstead admitted bathing with the child and told investigators another person woke her up hours later.
The baby became submerged in the water and drowned. Louisville Metro Police officers performed CPR and other life-saving measures until EMS arrived, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene, despite their efforts.
Investigators found Winstead had recent reports of narcotics use, and she admitted to using drugs throughout the day the baby died.
The judge set Winstead's bond at $100,000 full cash. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 17.
