LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 16-year-old was sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection to a fatal shooting in Louisville in 2023.
Louisville Metro Police homicide detectives arrested a 14-year-old boy in Feb. 2023 in connection to a murder of a man who worked at a theater in the Irish Hill neighborhood. Kenny Maier, 51, was shot and killed in the 500 block of Cooper Street on Jan. 26, 2023.Â
Maier worked at The Commonwealth Theatre Center, located at 1123 Payne Street, according to a statement from the theater. That statement, signed by Managing Director Ian Frank and Artistic Director Charlie Sexton, called the shooting "a senseless act of gun violence."
Keidrick Grinstead was charged with murder, possession of a handgun by a minor and attempted theft by unlawful taking or disposition of an auto.Â
He pleaded guilty to manslaughter, a firearms charge and other offenses in October 2024. He was originally charged as a juvenile, but he later was charged as an adult.
Grinstead is scheduled for another sentencing as an adult in Sept. 2026, near his 18th birthday.Â
