LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — As electric bills continue to increase, eligible households can now apply for help through a statewide assistance program.

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) opened applications for its Summer Subsidy Cooling Program, which provides a one-time benefit to help eligible applicants pay their electric bills.

The program is available on a first-come, first-served basis for households with incomes at or below 150% of the federal poverty guidelines.

Applications will remain open through Sept. 11.

Officials encourage households to apply early, as funding is limited. Residents can apply through their local Community Action Agency.

Jefferson County residents may schedule an appointment through the automated appointment system. Appointments may be scheduled by phone at (502) 991-8391 or online.

The toll-free service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
