LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky was ranked the third-worst state in the country to play pickleball by a leading website covering the sport.
Pickleball Union ranked Kentucky 48th and Indiana 38th. The rankings are based on the number of courts, amount of rain and the temperature.
The Bluegrass state only has 104 courts and only has one upcoming event scheduled for pickleball players.
Arizona is the best state for pickleball lovers to play the game. Louisiana is the worst.
Despite Kentucky's low ranking, several new venues are in the works around Louisville. A 4-acre site off La Grange Road in Lyndon will soon be developed into a pickleball entertainment venue with 12 indoor and outdoor courts, a rooftop bar, restaurant and golf simulators. And Goodbounce, Louisville's new 45,000-square-foot pickleball yard on the banks of the Ohio River, features six courts as well as s bocce ball, cornhole and a good place to enjoy the riverfront.
Pickleball Union cited The Sports & Fitness Industry Association in saying pickleball is the fastest-growing in the U.S., with nearly 5 million players.
