LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky will start its first online confiscated alcohol auction this week.
The ABC Confiscated Alcohol Auction opens this Wednesday, Nov. 27, and will close on Dec. 11.
There are 32 bottles up for grabs, including two bottles of Old Rip Van Winkle 10-year, a Blanton's Single Barrel Gold in a box with Japanese markings, and a "stock the bar" bundle that includes bottles of wine, vodka, rum and Jack Daniel's Vanilla.
In April, Gov. Andy Beshear signed House Bill 439, a bipartisan bill to expand the Malt Beverage Education Corporation, which funds Project Prom and Project Graduation events. Those make up the AWARE board, which works to provide grants to high schools, colleges, universities and outside organizations in Kentucky to support alcohol responsibility programs. It's all aimed at promoting responsible alcohol use by adults and awareness programs for youth.
The bill also gave the state's Department of Alcohol Beverage Control the ability to dispose of alcoholic beverages, seized from closed criminal investigations it conducts, through public auction.
Officials said auction items cannot be shipped, so winning bidders will have to pick them up in Frankfort.
