LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Wildfire season is underway in Kentucky as spring approaches.
Spring Wildfire Hazard Season runs from Feb. 15 through April 30, according to the Kentucky Division of Forestry.
During this time, outdoor burning is restricted statewide. Fires are prohibited between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. if they are within 150 feet of woodland or brushland.
Officials said the seasonal rules are designed to reduce wildfire risks, which can escalate quickly under dry conditions.
Some types of open burning are still allowed, while certain materials remain prohibited. A full list of regulations is available on the agency’s website.
Violations of Kentucky’s burn laws can carry steep penalties, including fines of up to $25,000 per day.
Officials urge residents to follow burn restrictions and use caution when conducting outdoor fires.
