LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A southeastern Indiana man was killed Sunday afternoon in a head-on crash in western Ripley County.
Indiana State Police said the crash happened shortly before 3 p.m. on U.S. 50 at County Road 600 West, near Holton.
When emergency crews arrived, they found a car overturned in the roadway and a commercial truck overturned off the north side of the highway.
Police identified the driver of the passenger vehicle as Tyler Dukes, 37, of Madison, Indiana. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the commercial truck, Richard Murray, 26, of Spring Hill, Florida, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to investigators, Dukes was driving a 2008 Mercury Mariner eastbound on U.S. 50 when, for reasons still under investigation, the SUV crossed the center line into the path of a westbound 2022 Volvo semi-truck pulling a trailer. The vehicles collided head-on in the westbound lane.
The ISP Versailles District Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating. Toxicology results for both drivers are pending.
The investigation remains ongoing.
