LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman is dead after she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a tree in Henry County, Ky., late Friday afternoon. 

It happened around 4:30 p.m., according to a news release from Kentucky State Police. That's when troopers from Post 5 in Campbellsburg responded to a 911 call reporting a crashed vehicle with a person trapped inside.

Henry County EMS and Henry County Fire also responded.

According to the preliminary investigation, a 2009 Chrysler passenger vehicle driven by Stephanie Nichols of Bethlehem, was eastbound on Ballardsville Road near the 5800 block. "For unknown reasons Ms. Nichols lost control of the vehicle, crossed over the westbound lane of travel and left the roadway. The vehicle continued traveling off the roadway until striking a tree."

The Henry County Coroner responded to the scene, where Nichols was pronounced dead.

This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by Kentucky State Police Post 5.
