LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some students in southern Indiana can stay up late to watch the Hoosiers take on the Miami Hurricanes Monday night without worrying about getting up early to attend school on Tuesday.

That's because Lanesville Community School Corporation Superintendent Ryan Apple proposed a 2-hour delay for Tuesday if the school system raised $1,820 for Riley Children's Hospital. He chose that amount because Indiana University was founded as the state's seminary in 1820.

The district more than tripled that goal, raising more than $7,500 for the children's hospital in Indianapolis.

To make sure working parents wouldn't be put out by the delay, Apple is volunteering to supervise students in the school gym until classes begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Indiana takes on the Miami Hurricanes in Miami for the national College Football Championship Monday night, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
