LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville EMT recruits participated in basic life support training Monday.
EMT Academy 21, part of Louisville Metro EMS, is one of the largest in recent history. On Monday, the recruits learned CPR.
The training is to prepare them for one of the most common scenarios EMS sees. Various tools are used including recordings of dogs barking to simulate real-life scenarios.
The scenarios help prepare the students as much as possible.
"One of the most critical runs we make can be a cardiac arrest, and so it's vital that they learn those skills to sustain that person and try to save them so chest compressions, ventilating and opening the airway, those basic skills along with the AED to deliver a shock and return that patient's pulse is the goal," said Maj. Chris Lokits with Louisville Metro EMS.
The students will also have access to resources to help them with runs that will impact them emotionally as well.
