Louisville Fire puts new $1.1M state-of-the-art fire engine into service

The new pumper truck features modern tools to fight fires and upgraded safety features.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A new state-of-the-art fire engine went into service Tuesday morning in Louisville.

City leaders held a "push-in" ceremony at Engine 18 to put the new $1.1 million fire truck into service. The new pumper truck features modern tools to fight fires and upgraded safety features.

During the ceremony, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said for far too long, Louisville firefighters did not receive the level of support they deserve from Louisville Metro government.

"Every single day, they put their safety and their lives at risk to protect others," Greenberg said. "I believe we owe it to each of them to provide modern, dependable, reliable equipment and safe and quality facilities."

WDRB reporting over the last few years revealed the worsening conditions of fire houses across the city. As a result, the city poured millions of dollars into upgrading fire facilities and equipment.
