LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man who said he owes his life to the fact that an AED (automated external defibrillator) was available at his gym when he suffered cardiac arrest continues to raise money to the devices to more places around Louisville.
It happened to Trey Mobley two months ago when he collapsed at his gym. He was having a heart attack, but fortunately Lakeside Swim Club staff members were nearby and performed CPR and used an AED to resuscitate him.
The quick reaction time -- and the AED -- helped save his life. Karen Sheets-Mobley, his wife, said it was unbelievably scary.
"It's good to be alive," Mobley said.
Now his family is raising money to have the life-saving devices in underserved areas around the city, because he wants other people to have the same chance he did.
They've has raised more than $3,200, in less than a week, and an anonymous donor has agreed to match that amount, raising the total to more than $6,500.
They hope to raise enough money to buy four AEDs and train at least 14 people to use them. One AED can cost anywhere between $1,500-$3,000.
"The value of one person's life is impossible to measure," Mobley said.
The deadline to make a contribution is March 17 -- Trey's 55th birthday.
