LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man said he feels like his life had come "full circle" after winning $200,000 on a scratch-off.
In a release, the Kentucky Lottery said the man, who wishes to remain anonymous, did his nightly ritual of stopping at Thorntons and buying a scratch-off and a Big Red. He usually purchases a couple of $10 tickets. And in October, he asked for the $10 Red Cherry Tripler.
There was only one left, so he purchased it and chose another ticket: a $10 Bluegrass Blowout.
It was No. 43 on that ticket that won him the top prize. The following Monday he received a check for $144,000 after taxes.
Winning was great, but the man told lottery officials that the win was more meaningful for him.
"Yesterday I celebrated 14 years sober. I passed the Healing Place on my way here and I was there for nine months, and silver chipped out of there. So, it really feels like life is coming full circle,” he told lottery officials.
“Here I am. I want to tell people that I am sober because there might be people out there that do not know that there is solution and a future for them.”
He and his wife plan on putting the money into their house and their investments.
"I want to make sure it counts for something. I really do. I want it to change my life, and I think it will," he said.
