LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — About a dozen Louisville organizations received a huge boost to help the homeless around the city.
The Coalition for the Homeless awarded a total of $4.5 million to 10 local agencies to fight family homelessness in Louisville.
The money is coming from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund, and will for the next four years. The funds will go toward rapid rehousing, family shelter expansion, transitional housing, case management, and will provide assistance to unhoused families.Â
“We all agree that no family should have to sleep on the streets or in their cars," Natalie Harris, executive director of the Coalition for the Homeless, said in a release.Â
Funded agencies include Catholic Charities, Louisville Outreach for the Unsheltered, Mama to Mama, Metro Office of Social Services, Option to Success, Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul, UP for Women & Children, Volunteers of America and Wayside Christian Mission.
The Coalition said last year, almost 2,000 people in Louisville who received homeless services were part of a family.Â
