LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville Police's River Unit located a car in the Ohio River Saturday evening after receiving reports of it going into the river.

Louisville Metro Police responded about 7:30 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports from a tugboat on the river that a car drove off the waterfront near Joe's Crab Shack, department spokesperson Aaron Ellis said.

Ellis said it is unknown if the act was accidental or intentional.

LMPD ground units searched the waterfront and surrounding areas while Louisville Fire launched a boat to aid in the search.

Traffic on the Ohio River was stopped for a time while crews searched the area, but Ellis said traffic has reopened on the river.

Crews located a car about 9 p.m. but no victim inside, Ellis said. Due to the river's fast currents, the search was suspended and will resume Sunday morning to continue search for a victim.
