LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The annual Pegasus Parade will travel 17 blocks down Broadway on Sunday, one of the marquee events in the leadup to the 150th Kentucky Derby.
The family-friendly event features marching bands, inflatable characters and floats. The theme of the parade this year is "Celebrating Derby 150."
Below are the street closures planned for Sunday, April 28:
8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Swan Street from Vine Street and Lampton Street
12:30-8 p.m.
- Broadway from Baxter Avenue to Shelby Street
- Vine Street from Brent Street to Breckinridge Street
- Brent Street from Vine Street to Broadway
- Finzer Street between Broadway and Logan streets
- 9th Street (north) from Kentucky Street to Broadway
- Broadway from Baxter Avenue to 12th Street
- Gray Street from Shelby Street to 1st Street
- Stoneware Alley from Vine Street to Barret Avenue
- Jacob Street from Shelby Street to 1st Street
- Barret Avenue from St. Anthony Place to Lexington Road
- St. Anthony Place from Broadway to Barret Avenue
- Logan Street from Breckinridge Street to Broadway
- Finzer Street from Shelby Street to Logan Street
- Campbell Street from Maker Alley to Gray Street
- Shelby Street from Broadway to Chestnut Street
- Clay Street from Gray Street to Breckinridge Street
- Hancock Street from Gray Street to Breckinridge Street
- Jackson Street from Broadway to Breckinridge Street

The parade starts at Broadway and Campbell Street and marches west to 9th Street.Â
The first Pegasus Parade was in 1956 on a budget of only $640. It is the oldest festival event.

Among highlights from the parade's past include grand marshals John Wayne, Michael Landon, Lorne Greene and William Shatner.
Entertainers from Carol Channing and Liberace to Gladys Knight and Loretta Lynn have also taken part. And Kentucky legends like Muhammad Ali and Colonel Harland Sanders have been favorites. General Norman Schwarzkopf also rode in the parade in his first public appearance in the U.S. at the conclusion of the Gulf War.
