LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A longtime Louisville landmark known by many as the "castle school" is being torn down to make way for a new apartment complex.

Demolition work has now begun at the former site of Valor Traditional Academy, located along Bardstown Road between Fern Creek and Mt. Washington.

According to building permits, the former school property, known for its castle-like appearance, will be the site of a new residential development.

Plans filed earlier this year by a New Jersey-based company include a multi-building apartment complex featuring multiple three-story buildings and a clubhouse.

Valor was a small, private K-12 school that closed in 2025 after nearly 30 years.

It is unclear when work on the complex is expected to be done.
