LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Mayor Craig Greenberg says the King Louis XVI statue that once stood outside Metro Hall may be back on display in 2026.

The statue has been in storage since it was damaged during protests in 2020. Restoring it has been delayed because the work is expensive and requires specialized skills.

"There is money that has been appropriated for its restoration," Greenberg said. “We’re working to find a contractor who can safely remove the graffiti before it goes back on display.”

He added that the city has not yet determined where or when the statue will be reinstalled but hopes the project will be completed sometime next year.
