Louisville suspect accused of attacking man under hospice care

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man has been arrested after police say he attacked a man who was under end-of-life care.

According to an arrest warrant, the incident took place on Sept. 30. Police say 48-year-old Troy Jones was living and working in the home of a married couple.

The husband was under the care of hospice nurses, attached to a life-sustaining medical device that provides oxygenated blood to his heart.

Police say he was sleeping, when he woke up to find Jones attacking his wife. When he tried to help her, police say Jones punched him and grabbed his neck, choking him.

He then allegedly tried to pull out the man's medical device, causing an injury to his side, and fracturing his right hand.

According to the warrant, a nurse told police that if Jones had succeeded in pulling out the device, the man would have died within hours.

Jones ran away before police could arrive, but according to the warrant, the victims were able to identify him because he'd lived in the neighborhood a long time.

A warrant was issued for his arrest on Oct. 18. He was taken into custody on Friday.

Jones is charged with second-degree assault and engaging in the knowing abuse or neglect of an adult. He's currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
