LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new ordinance aims to give last-minute shoppers more time to buy liquor for holiday get togethers.
Thursday, Louisville Metro Council agreed to expand packaged alcohol sales on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, but only in certain years. This year, both of the holidays fall on a Sunday.
Typically, alcohol can't be sold on Sundays until 1 p.m. The ordinance carves out an exception for when Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve fall on Sundays. It allows liquor stores to be open from 6 a.m. until 11:59 p.m.
After this year, it won't happen again until 2028.
