LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Metro Department of Corrections added 11 new officers on Friday.
The new corrections officers graduated Friday afternoon after completing the training academy.
The graduation comes as Louisville's jail tries to fill a worker shortage. Jail Director Jerry Collins said Metro Corrections still needs about 80 officers to be fully staffed.
Friday's graduates said they're ready to get to work.
"In the beginning of the academy, I was unsure as a female and my age. I completed the 11-week training and this has been the best experience of my life," officer Caroline Russell said.
The jail has had its struggles in the past, including a scathing report of safety and security and multiple inmate deaths.
Jail officials implemented a new model this year to allow more direct supervision to officers and inmates.
