LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A southern Indiana school district is grieving the loss of a classmate.

Marty Storms, 15, from Fredericksburg, Indiana, died Saturday, Sept. 16.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department said Storms was driving a pickup truck on Beck's Mill Road when he lost control of the vehicle, which then rolled over around 1:29 p.m. Storms was unconscious when first responders arrived and he was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Salem, where he was pronounced dead.

A 14-year-old riding in the truck, a 1997 Ford Ranger, was taken to Harrison County Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

West Washington School Corporation Superintendent Keith Nance said Storms attended the school district his entire life and was currently an 8th grade student.

Nance, with permission from Storms' family, shared that Storms was a "loveable kid" who often made people laugh. Nance said the school will be "grieving for a while." He explained that there are only around 50 students in the district's 8th grade, and West Washington is a close-knit community.

Grief counselors have been called in, and Nance said a therapy dog will also be available to students.

Nance said students wishing to attend Storms' funeral will be excused from school and there are plans to cover for teachers who will also be at the service.

According to a Facebook post from the district, West Washington School Corporation operated on a 2-hour delay Monday, giving time for staff to "collectively take a moment to grieve" before helping support students.
