LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Hope, help and support comprised the message from participants at the March of Dimes, March for Babies event at Waterfront park Saturday.

The goal was to raise $500,000 for research of premature babies and to help educate families. More than 300 teams raise money throughout the year to hit their goal.

Wet weather didn't stop mothers and their families from attending the event, and organizers say the help they received is invaluable.

"So that information and that support going through this really difficult time, it was something invaluable to us," volunteer Jaymi Yantis said. "Because of that i want to give back to families, I want them to know that there is hope help and support and this a great funraiser to help bring money to the organization that is helping those families."

March of Dimes of Greater Louisville, who put on the event, says 1 in 8 babies are born premature in the state of Kentucky.
