LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Doctors at The University of Kansas hospital say an alarming number of people are drinking hand sanitizer.

So far this year, 153 people have been treated for alcohol poisoning related to hand sanitizers.  About half of those treated are children under the age of one.

Officials say some hand sanitizers are 95-percent alcohol. Doctors say it can be extremely dangerous for children to drink hand sanitizer. Drinking one or two little squirts of sanitizer can make children drunk.

Younger children may be drawn to drink hand sanitizers because of their smell. But poison control centers believe others are consuming them deliberately.
