An organization is helping the family of a Scott County Sheriff's deputy live without a mortgage payment after he was killed, according to LEX18.

Deputy Caleb Conley was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Interstate 75 in May 2023.

According to police, Conley, 35, stopped Steven Sheangshang on Interstate 75. Sheangshang shot Conley and then took off. Conley died at the hospital and Sheangshang was charged with murder of a police officer, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, among other charges.

Conley had been with Scott County Sheriff's Office for four years after serving eight years with the U.S. Army. He left behind a wife and children.

Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization that helps American heroes and their families with mortgage payments, is helping Conley's family. Tunnel to Towers selected 50 families to receive a donation.

"We can't bring their loved ones back, but knowing that they can have the peace of mind not having to worry about just one thing that's paid for, just one thing that we can do to allow them more time to grieve and more time to take care of their children," Lesley Allen, director of Tunnel to Towers 5K in northern Kentucky, said to LEX18.

A GoFundMe was set up for his family and promoted by the Scott County Sheriff's Office. To visit the GoFundMe, click here.
