LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A nonprofit is putting bikes into school gyms across Kentucky.
All Kids Bike teaches kindergarteners how to ride a bike in their PE classes.
It's in a handful of JCPS schools right now. Executive Director Lisa Weyer said this includes Coleridge-Taylor, Maupin, Perry, and Rangeland Elementary.
All Kids Bike gives schools 24 balance bikes, helmets and teacher training.
The program takes eight weeks for students to learn how to balance, steer, stop, and petal.
"Truly, it's making a difference as far as getting that opportunity to allow them to learn to ride a bike," Weyer said. "They might not get that chance at home."
All Kids Bike has 17 programs across Kentucky. It also serves thousands of students across the country.
The nonprofit is funded through donations and partnerships. The bikes stay at the school, allowing new kindergarten classes to use the equipment for years.
