LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Rapid growth in Fern Creek may be getting even bigger with a new development proposal.

On December 1, a pre-application was submitted for a zone change at the corner of Cedar Creek Road and Bardstown Road from residential to commercial.

In the letter to the Louisville Metro Office of Planning an attorney stated they want the zone change to allow a multi-tenant retail development. The proposal includes banks, a coffee shop, restaurants, a grocery store, a gas station and several retail stores.

Those who drive from Mount Washington to Louisville and travel Bardstown Road every day say they encourage the growth but are worried about the traffic getting worse.

"Going into work is terrible, traffic, it used to take me half an hour to get to work, sometimes it's 45 minutes to an hour and then when I come home from work, I have the same battle," says Barbara Guth.

Business owners like Han Hong of Polish Perfection say they welcome the new growth because it could mean more customers.

"I think it's good for businesses and it's good for the consumer because they get the chance to explore and see what's going on around here," says Hong.

In the pre-application letter, it says the applicant submitted a similar proposal in 2023, but they were unable to move forward with the zone change.

It also said there was a community meeting held about this zone change on December 3.

The attorney who filed the pre-application tells us the development is still in the very early stages.
