LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Neighbors showed up to a Floyd County Commissioners meeting Tuesday to again voice their opposition to a proposed development.

The development would be a commercial and residential complex on Old Vincennes Road near Highlander Point that would require the property to be rezoned.

The proposed zoning request would create 125 apartments and several commercial buildings.

Neighbors are worried about increased traffic, raising concerns about getting school buses down the road that leads to several schools, including Floyd Central High School.

"We don't need this giant, three-story apartment complex, which is going to be very injurious to the homes in the area. I mean, I don't want to look at that," said Aaron Jones, who lives nearby.

Citing a traffic study during Tuesday's meeting, developers said their plan actually reduces traffic impact, versus leaving the property as is—which is currently zoned for general commercial development.

"You will find that without the component of multi-family units, the trips now are more than double," John Kraft, attorney for the developers, said.

Right now, no official decision on the project has been made.

County commissioners said something will be built there, it's just a question of what kind of development it will be.

They will take the issue up again at their April meeting as they weigh the community's concerns against the developer's rights and the area's evolving landscape.
