LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Norton Research Institute has a new state-of-the-art research lab.Â
The Clinical and Translational Research Lab is a 7,200-square-foot, multimillion-dollar facility.
The lab allows doctors to conduct studies and research the connection between gut biology and memory and movement disorders like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease.
Shannon Stoecker suffers from Parkinson's and is participating in the study at the lab. He said he jumped at the chance to help in the research in the hopes of finding answers.
"I'm hoping not to get worse. Parkinson's is a progressive disease," said Stoecker. "Right now, I'm not terribly bad. I can take care of myself around the house. But I'm a little concerned, down the road, I'll be a burden on her so if we can get a cure to slow down the progression, that's great."
Funding for the lab was made possible through a $4.2 million grant from the Norton Healthcare Foundation.
