LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An off-duty Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS firefighter saved a life while on a family trip at Lake Cumberland.
Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS said on social media that firefighter/EMT Keegan Bolt was off-duty and on a family trip to Lake Cumberland on July 12.
While on a boat, Bolt saw a medical emergency in the water.
Officials said a heart attack survivor, with a known cardiac condition, was swimming and became distressed due to the cold water.
This caused a circulatory failure and multiple failed attempts to stay afloat, but Bolt jumped in the water and brought them back to the surface.
The individual made a full recovery after being saved by Bolt.
"The family involved has expressed deep and lasting gratitude for Keegan's actions, recognizing that his presence and intervention made the difference between life and death," Anchorage Middletown fire and EMS said in a social media post.
