LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The former U of L and NBA player who made history on the court will become a part of Louisville history tomorrow.

That's when officials will break ground on the Darrell Griffith Athletic Center.

The facility will cost $2 million and will be built on the campus where the Hall of Famer attended elementary school.

It's now home to the West End School, a community-based boarding school.

"But no matter what athletic ability you have, you've got to have education and you've got to find your way in life," Griffith says. "It starts at this level. It started for me at Virginia Elementary School and we plan on bringing that back to this community."

The West End School's basketball team should be playing in the new center by late next year or early 2014.
