LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Leaders in Oldham County met Monday to discuss data centers.
The meeting included the first reading of a proposed data center ordinance. Last week, the Planning Commission proposed requirements for data centers.
However, the proposed requirements were rejected, and officials requested guidance on the new rules. One council member also proposed a permanent ban, which Oldham County Judge-Executive David Voegele said is illegal.
During the meeting, Voegele said he does not believe data centers are a good fit for the area.
"As I tried to make clear last week under the regulations presented, there is absolutely no current industrial or commercial location in Oldham County where a data center could fit into," Voegele said. "It's just not there. We don't have the space."
The proposal next goes to the Planning Commission. Then, the Fiscal Court will either accept or reject its recommendations.
