LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said it's time for all leaders to come together to move the state and the country forward following Tuesday's election.

Beshear spoke on CNN on Friday morning and said voters are focused on their everyday concerns.

"They're thinking about the next doctor's appointment for themselves, their parents, their kids," he said. "They're thinking about the roads and bridges they drive. They're thinking about public education. They're thinking about the public school they drop their kids off at. And so I think it's really important that not just we as Democrats, but Republicans too recognize that people want us to find common ground on the areas they care about the most and then apply common sense approaches to them."

Beshear said the election showed him what's most important to voters right now, adding that he thinks the country is looking for some common ground and common sense.

"What it suggests is people are looking for a better life, and these elections have to be focused on convincing voters that's what we're focused on too," he said. "That we are going to spend 90% of our time on the issues that matter most to you, that are probably the least political issues that are out there but the ones that impact people every single day."

Beshear, who is in his second term, said he's going to spend a majority of his time as governor doing things that help Democrats, Republicans and Independents in their everyday life.

He was in the national spotlight this summer when he made the short list as a potential running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign. Last month, he was recognized by Time Magazine in the 2024 TIME100 Next list for his work in the state, including the legalization of medical marijuana and expanding Medicaid to cover vision and dental care. The article also talked about his commitment to reproductive rights and steady presence in his responses to natural disasters in western and eastern Kentucky during his time as governor.
